Bishop Szkredka to Speak on Scripture

The Most Rev. Slawomir Szkredka, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Episcopal Vicar for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region

SANTA BARBARA – On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library, 2201 Laguna Street, will present the next installment of its An Educating Conversation lecture series from 6pm until 8pm.

The evening will feature the Most Rev. Slawomir Szkredka, an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Episcopal Vicar for the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region, who will speak on Biblical Commentary as Testimony: Nicholas de Lyra and the Vitality of the Biblical Text. Drawing upon one of the Archive-Library’s early printed biblical treasures, the Postilla of the fourteenth-century Franciscan scholar Nicholas de Lyra, the presentation will explore the tradition of biblical commentary and its role in deepening understanding of Sacred Scripture.

Following the lecture, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in discussion with the speaker as part of the series’ conversational format. Light refreshments will be provided, and doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Bishop Szkredka, a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 2002, holds a doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and previously served as a professor and formator at Saint John’s Seminary before his appointment as Episcopal Vicar in 2023.

The event is presented in collaboration with the parish of Mission Santa Barbara. Admission is $30 for the general public and $25 for members of the Archive-Library. RSVP is required. Click here to purchase tickets.
