SAN LUIS OBISPO – The parish of Saint Anne Byzantine Catholic Church, 222 E. Foothill Boulevard, offers the Byzantine Divine Liturgy every Sunday at 10am.

The Divine Liturgy is the Eucharistic liturgy of the Byzantine tradition and corresponds to the Mass in the Latin Church. Rooted in the ancient Christian tradition of Constantinople, the Byzantine Divine Liturgy is characterized by sung prayer, incense, icons, processions, and a rich tradition of Eastern Christian spirituality. The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom is ordinarily celebrated throughout most of the year, while the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great is used on certain appointed days.

The parish of Saint Anne in San Luis Obispo celebrates the Divine Liturgy six days a week and offers the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation weekly, as well as catechesis for youth and other liturgical services and classes.

Saint Anne is a parish of the Holy Protection of Mary Byzantine Catholic Eparchy of Phoenix, a suffragan eparchy (diocese) of the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh. The Byzantine Catholic Church, also known as the Ruthenian Byzantine Catholic Church, is one of the Eastern Catholic Churches sui iuris within the universal Catholic Church. It preserves the Byzantine liturgical, spiritual, theological, and canonical traditions associated historically with the Carpatho-Rusyn peoples of Central and Eastern Europe while professing the same Catholic faith and celebrating the same seven sacraments, traditionally called the Holy Mysteries, as the Latin Church.

In the United States, the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan Church is headed by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Pittsburgh and consists of the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and the Eparchies of Passaic, Parma, and Phoenix. Saint Anne therefore belongs to the Eparchy of Phoenix, a suffragan eparchy of the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh.

Founded in 1986, Saint Anne provides Catholics on the Central Coast with an opportunity to experience the ancient liturgical and spiritual traditions of the Christian East while remaining in full communion with the Pope and the worldwide Catholic Church.
