National Day of Remembrance for the Unborn

SAN LUIS OBISPO – On Saturday, 12 September 2026, local Catholics will observe the National Day of Remembrance for the Unborn with a Memorial Mass and prayer service honoring children who have died through abortion or spontaneous miscarriage.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated from 10am until 11am in the Old Mission Chapel at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, 728 Monterey Street. The chapel is accessible through the Palm Street entrance adjacent to the parish office. Limited parking is available in the parish lot, with metered street parking nearby.

Following the Mass, a Memorial Service will be held at 11:30am at the Monument for the Unborn in San Luis Cemetery, 2 Higuera Street. Participants should look for the tent and chairs near the large memorial stone; parking will be available in the adjacent San Luis Obispo Elks Lodge lot.

The National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children was established in 2013 as an annual observance centered upon prayer and memorial services at gravesites and memorials dedicated to children lost to abortion. The local San Luis Obispo observance also remembers children lost through spontaneous miscarriage, offering an opportunity to honor these lives with dignity and prayer.
